About:
I discovered my passion for ceramics while living in the south of Spain where I first threw on a potter's wheel in the town of Algeciras. My teacher, a master potter, took me on and I apprenticed with him for about a year. From the moment I got on the wheel, I have been enamored with clay. It is a medium by which I can be playful, meditative, and experiment with my creativity. My practice began with very traditional teachings, which I return to often, and offered me a strong foundation from which I can expand upon. Rather than a formal education with ceramics, a variety of workshops inform my understanding of clay; different firings, different clay bodies, and different techniques have made me the potter I am today.
Daily walks in the parks near my home give me time to contemplate and observe this breathtaking planet we get to live on. In turn, this time spent in nature is an endless source of inspiration. Clouds, barn swallows, forest flora and fauna will frequently figure on my pieces. As an elementary school teacher working with children daily, allowed me to experience the joy and freedom of whimsy in our world. I have always been, and continue to be, motivated to create from a place of delight, where each piece I make is inspired by the sweetness of the world around me.
