Community Open Mic

August 7th 5-8pm

Spanish Broom is organizing a Open Mic Community event August 7th from 5-8pm. We are eager to give artists opportunities to perform with us, to be paid and supported by Spanish Broom, and to expand their creative efforts within our community.

You choose how and what you want to perform! Whether an improvised tablao style performance, or a choreographed piece, we are offering a platform for you to present your authentic creativity. Performances can vary in length, but we ask that artists keep their works to a 10 minute maximum

The evening’s agenda will include a Flamenco music and dance workshop, as well as performances by local Flamenco artists. There will be a variety of local creative offerings; visual art exhibitions, food vendors, brewery beverages and multiple organizations offering educational resources. There is something for everyone! We aim to engage with various industries, working symbiotically towards the goal of building a stronger community by providing opportunities and facilitating prosperity within our local economy.

Schedule

    • 3:30pm - arrive to site, begin load-in

    • 4pm - Set up all vendors, organizations, exhibition space, stage setup and sound check, first call musicians and all performers

    • 4:30pm -All performers arrive

    • 5pm - Event opens

    • 5:30-6pm - Flamenco Workshop

    • 6pm - Flamenco performances begin. Organizations/business and individuals to talk about their work between pieces

  • This set list is subject to change. July 13th is the deadline to confirm participation. Once we know exactly the number of participants, we will have a more detailed set list.

  • Hey! We asked you for a reason.

    You can do what is within your comfort zone while also pushing yourself to get out there and present something. You can do a one minute piece or you can do an entire baile. You can sing some letras or you can sing an entire baile.

    We are focusing on flamenco, but we are more than happy to hear what other ways you would like to present.

  • Since we are finalizing how many people will be involved and working out sponsorships, we do not have a specific number. Our goal is to pay at least $80 per performer.
